3AW Melbourne has "Remember When" nostalgia talkback with Bruce Mansfield
and Philip Brady

6PR Perth has a similar program "The Way We Were" with Steve Gordon

"Remember When" on 3AW used to be much more music based when it was hosted
by Clark Sinclair and the late Neville Wragg (in the 1980s?).

I enjoyed Kevin O'Neil's "All Time Favourites" on 2KY - it was clearly
heard in Melbourne between the time 3TT (ex-3DB) went off the air and
Newsradio started.

Another angle could be what did racing stations do on Sundays before Sunday
racing became common?

3UZ (now Sport 927) played country music from 1977 through the 1980s and
then switched to Golden Memories.

Many stations used to play religious programs on Sunday nights; 3XY was non
stop religion (including Back to the Bible), 3KZ had Billy Graham and "The
World Tomorrow". 2KY had Oral Roberts. I don't think he was heard in
Melbourne. Poor Oral later fell from grace in the USA.

Some of these religious programs are still heard on community radio. Would
any commercial stations still broadcast them? Perhaps the closest thing
might be the Catholic (?) program on 3AW 0000-0100 Saturdays. It used to be
the Catholic House at 2100 Sundays. In my time at 3AW (1969-1972), there was
"Promenade Concert" on Sunday nights 1830-2100 was light classic stuff and
2200-2400 was more "serious". There used to be a 15 minute news at 1800
Sundays followed by "World Church News" 1815-1830!

And before that it was his father: Herbert W Armstrong!
At one time, the program was broadcast on both 3KZ and 3XY.

Wasn't Garner Ted excommunicated from "The Radio Church Of God" (or
whatever it was called) by Herbert W for having it off with his
secretary ?

Happened mid to late 80's IIRC

Um, similarly, wasn't 3AW's talkback priest (name?) removed for an
indiscretion of sorts?

I think you might be referring to Reverend Alex Kenworthy Harold!

He was at 3AW in my time, the early 1970s. I think he was replaced by Bruce
and Phil but there may have been someone else in the meantime.

There used to be a women's (home hints type) session on 3AW. It was
conducted by "Martha Gardener". There also used be Lois Lathlean - an
elderly lady who was supported by her presentation announcer, Don Taylor. I
think all have departed for the radio station in the sky.

PS: There was a rumour that Elsie Flognoggle had auditioned for the late
night session but it could never be confirmed. I wonder if Elsie Flognoggle
is mentioned in Wayne Mac's forthcoming book?

I think he must have been there for some time .. I worked at AW for a
short while in the late 70s or early 80s .. I was his presentation
announcer, and Jane Holmes (now at 3MP) was his producer.

Was Don Taylor ever at 3GL, or am I getting him mixed up with someone
else? The name is familiar.

I believe Elsie is doing a sort of reverse-Dame Edna and appears on a
radio station in the Greater Melbourne area.

If she hasn't been mentioned, then it's an oversight on Wayne's part,
which I'm sure will be corrected in subsequent editions.

Well, yes, there'll be quite a few old tarts mentioned in my tome, but
whether dear ol Else will get a run...you'll just have to wait n see.
