Just bought the Kaiser Baas DAB+ (KBA03006) from DSE here in Perth
(well actually from Tandy, but same thing right?). Retail: $84 AUD,
cheapest DAB+ radio I can find.

Key links for this radio:
http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/4afe7d4c025a72282740c0a87e01067b/Product/View/A5130
http://www.kaiserbaas.com/Portable_Digital_DAB_Radio.html

So how does it work? Like a treat! Picks up all DAB+ stations here in
Perth (at least here in the Melville/Cockburn area). If you plug in
the headphone out to your hifi it comes through as stereo (and quite
good actually). It also has an AC adaptor included and can run on 4x
AA batteries (so, easy to pop in off-the-shelf NiMH rechargeables).
Also quite small and portable, can double up as a portable radio and
hifi tuner. So if you have been waiting to try DAB+ I would recommend
this radio, especially if its still on special at $84 AUD (normally
retails for $129 AUD).

Any cons? Only that it has a backlight LCD which is always on when
using the AC adaptor (but it does timeout when using battery power)
and from the looks of it, its using a standard filament bulb (not
LED), quite bright, too bright perhaps, so one or two years down the
track this may blow out and you will have a dark display.

DAB+ Perth radio stations: On November 14, 2009 you can get all the DAB
+ stations for Perth metro as listed in http://www.digitalradioplus.com.au/
plus: ABC Grandstand, Bird (bird chirping? must be a temporary station
I am sure), SBS 1, 2, 3, 4 (I think 2 and 4 are the same) and their +2
versions, and SBS 6 (seems to feature English language documentaries,
according to the SBS WWW it has Sports commentaries too).

Enjoy!

Do yourself a favour. Everyone on this list should have at least one
digital radio.

You can plug this little beauty in to your iPod outdoor player (or any
stereo speaker system for that matter).

The sound is awesome.

Fair point Jack, and I gather you already have a decent FM radio, so why
spend $84? I've had a look at the Kaiser Baas unit and I might venture to
buy one, since I haven't bought a 'real' radio for quite a few years. I'd
still actually like to get a more expensive model that also has Wifi
internet radio.

Having said that, it is clear that DAB+ radios are starting to drop ever so
slightly in price. With units coming in at under $100 now, I expect as
Christmas approaches, there will be a bit of a pick up in sales. I think the
increasing buying power of the Aussie dollar is helping to bring prices of
new stock items down a bit.

Just remember, Racing Radio enthusiasts do not get benefits of buying DAB+
in Perth where the Racing channel is operating on a narrowcast AM frequency
of 1206 kHz, and therefore have no access to DAB+ spectrum. I my
conversations with RWWA recently, it seems that they don't really mind.
There is no sense that they are missing out on market share by being denied
access to this new technology. In my work at Myer I meet many racing
enthusiast who also happen to like listening to radio. When they learn that
DAB+ does not carry Racing broadcasts, they quickly lose interest in the new
technology.

Well narrowcast stations like Racing Radio, Rete Italia (and the ones
on 103.3 and 104.9 in the FM band) are just that: for a minority
sector of the population. That is why they have to operate on lower
power (beats me why though). More critically none of the community
radio stations (like Sonshine FM) are yet on DAB+ although I keep
hearing plans and discussions about this. And of course how about the
regions, when are they going digital (i.e. car radios will have to
have DAB+/FM and AM, surprised no receivers with DAB+/FM AND AM)? So
in the end FM and AM will still be around for a long time.

But will DAB+ be a fad or is there a reason to try this new technology
out? I find digital broadcasts (both TV and radio) are much more
robust, all channels either work or they don't (no distortion, noise
or ghosting depending on the orientation of the receiver, antenna,
time of day, weather, or the station you are listening too, etc.) and
DAB+ sounds suprisingly good (certainly much better than AM, and
competes very well with FM, and probably better than since most people
never have an ideal FM setup with no distortion, no noise, etc.).

Well, DAB+ is still subject to interference in the sense that reception can
be poor in areas where random RF is high, such as inside Myers in Forest
Place. Reception outdoors is still better than indoors. And you do get a
effect similar to audio pixelation when reception is weak, which can be
annoying if it the signal is constantly fading in and out.

So here we are, 8 years later, and I'm wondering if you can tell me how to use the preset function. It's impossible to find a PDF download for this item now. All the links have been disabled between the time of this post and now.
I've just inherited this radio from my young brother, and he's probably had it since new. I'm just using it as my kitchen FM radio as there (still) is no digital radio in Tasmania.

I don't know the first thing about this, but I just did a bit of
Googling with the available information and found this:

"Can't store presets in Kaiser Baas DAB"

The question in this forum thread is exactly the same as yours, so I
think the answer will help you as well.
